First surgery

Today I visited my neurosurgeon (referred to me by Dr. Crane, my awesome oncologist) and have been scheduled for surgery next Tuesday morning. The surgery will help strengthen my spine, especially the C-6 region (Google that). The C-6 region will be replaced with a metal bar (no, I will not beep when I go through airport security). They have done this before and are very optimistic about the results helping my recovery.

I should be out of commission for a couple of weeks, after which time I will be sporting a shiny new, pink if I can find it, Aspen Collar (Google that too).

I plan to recouperate in New Bern with my parents, Peggy and Doug Phelps, for a week or two. Feel free to stop by and say hello! (Bring chocolate).

I am hoping that the surgery will alleviate some of the pain I am currently feeling in my neck. After this surgery, I can begin my regimen of chemotherapy pills (twice daily, no hair loss expected), and radiation treatments. I'm taking this all one day at a time.

Please forgive me for not calling everyone. I am hoping the blog will help keep everyone updated until I have time to call or email. Thank you for all of your love and support.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will keep you updated or get my friends to help me communicate what is going on.
